Becky Miller is one of Carrollton’s own. She is the mayor of Carrollton, TX. She has been on the city council for the past ten years and was running for a second term. Political ads by definition are dirty and her competitor, Ron Branson had no shortage of the messy stuff to hurl towards her campaign.
Her appeal, in some part could be attributed to her gender. Another pull could have been due to her history. She was a backup singer for Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt? She had been engaged to Eagles singer and songwriter Don Henley? How cool is that? If you’re not impressed, don’t worry there’s more. She’s got something for everyone including a brother who died in Vietnam. Can we say “sympathy” anyone?
If I sound crass, I apologize. Investigations into these past details are proven to be controversial at best and complete fabrication at its worst.
A spokesperson for the singers had never heard of Becky Miller. Miller’s own father has said Becky doesn’t even have a brother, let alone one who died.
Carrollton’s Mayor was called on her detailed past.
Through much back pedalling, Miller’s revised statements included the confession that her “brother” who died was not actually a blood relative. This came on the heels of proven evidence that the name she gave opponent Ron Branson turned out to be of a black male born four months apart from Miller. She later claimed misleading Branson out of spite. (I thought she didn’t like playing dirty!)
As for the fame, “how many of you remember the people you worked with 30 plus years ago?” This statement is in addition to the admission that she was a backup singer for only a couple of months. There was no retort regarding Don Henley.
Claims are convoluted at best. What does Carrollton really know about their Mayor? How much of it counts?
What Becky Miller has done for the city of Carrollton?
Since becoming a city council member, Carrollton has been named one of the safest cities to live. (Money magazine counted Carrollton as number 19.) Aside from the days prior to the election, Becky Miller has not been tied to any negative publicity or scandals that would put Carrollton’s reputation at risk. Supported with a signature the Climate Protection Agreement and improved recycling practices.
Could and would these facts negate the fibs of the past? Would Becky Miller see a second term as the Mayor of Carrollton?
Who was Ron Branson, the bane of Miller’s existence? Some believed in him, others called him a “crackpot”.
On Saturday May 10th, Carrollton voters filled the booths casting their votes. Whether it was based on performance or the publicity, Carrollton had a new Mayor. Ron Branson had beaten Becky Miller.
Graciously, Miller thanked all her supporters and expressed her appreciation of those council members who did not withdraw their names from her campaign.
Well maybe now she will have time to show Carrollton by reconnecting with her former lover and friends?
